Virtual fencing for cattle

Virtual fencingfor cattle in Portugal.

Solar-charged GPS neckbands and an audio-first welfare protocol, on one platform. Built by Gallagher, in livestock since 1938.

In Portugal

Portuguese cattle production is concentrated in the Alentejo, where the montado (cork and holm oak over a grazed understorey) carries most of the national beef herd at low stocking density, almost entirely as suckler cows on large blocks. eShepherd fits that pattern: the boundary follows the feed rather than the property line, and there is nothing to build through the trees.

Why eShepherd

Why eShepherd works in Portugal

  • Montado blocks in Beja, Évora and Portalegre are grazed at low density over large areas. eShepherd puts the boundary where the feed is, not where posts can go.
  • Summer feed is the limit in the Alentejo. Strip and block grazing lets you ration what is standing and rest ground before it burns off.
  • Keep cattle clear of cork and holm oak regeneration, riparian strips and firebreaks with exclusion zones instead of permanent fence.
  • Small suckler herds in Trás-os-Montes and the Minho graze steep, fragmented and rented parcels where permanent fence is never worth installing.
  • Gallagher fencing already reaches Portuguese farms through established local distributors, and eShepherd carries the same 88 years in livestock.

Pricing

What does eShepherd cost in Portugal?

Cost depends on your herd size, your connectivity setup and your terrain, so rather than a one-size price we build you an exact figure, free and no-obligation. You own the neckbands outright (no per-head lease), with a small monthly connectivity charge.

Connectivity

Carrier coverage in Portugal

eShepherd cellular runs on LTE-M (Cat-M1) in Portugal, roaming across MEO, NOS and Vodafone. There is no NB-IoT layer in the mix here, so the neckbands run on the LTE-M footprint alone, which still reaches further into rural country than the bands your phone uses. The Alentejo montado is generally well covered. Coverage thins in the interior uplands: Trás-os-Montes, the Serra da Estrela, the Serra de São Mamede and the Serra do Caldeirão behind the Algarve. LoRa base stations fill those gaps.

How eShepherd compares

eShepherd is one of several virtual fencing systems available in Portugal. The differences that matter: solar-charged neckbands you own outright (no per-head lease), and the option to mix cellular and LoRa on one property. See how eShepherd compares →
